Now the taxpayers will have to pay for new wheels and rims.

this sounds like a great set up for some editorials or jokes about Detroit.
Since this was the only vehicle that had its wheels stolen, it probably means that the city wasted a lot of money on expensive custom wheel for a city vehicle, which would be the subject for more editorials about irresponsible spending by a city that does not have any money to waste.

Highly amusing but why is the vehicle 'assigned to a district police chief' considered to be the mayor's? Yes, I know Bing uses it but then it should be assigned to the mayor's office not the police department.

I lived in Detroit 21 years and never had anything stolen. Since I left all their mayors have been crooks...until Bing.

The mayor should just consider it "giving back to the community" ;)

I don't clearly see where it was owned/leased by the city; but perhaps they didn't pay and had the wheels and tires repossessed to give the chicago authorities a clear message. They need more sweets; given them a box of .................indict mints.
