It's not like oilsands oil is going to stay in the ground, the world isn't going to pass on the 2nd largest extractable reserve in the world. I don't see anyone boycotting Nigerian or Venezuelan oil, where vast amounts are spilled into waterways, landscapes, and the Atlantic thanks to slack regs, non-existent enforcement, and simple theft from tapping pipelines. But rather than deal with real problems, these supposed greenies are exaggerating oilsands disturbed areas by multiples of 1000's and then selling boycotts based on their misinformation.
This campaign, if more than green posturing, will have the ironic result of increasing energy consumption and therefore carbon output, to ship North American oilsands crude to overseas markets like China and other SE Asia economies, while North America will increase energy imports from - OPEC countries like Nigeria where no effective regulations exist.

It seems to be if we don't purchase the Bitumen base gasoline, the Asian's will, so the pollution penalty will be here in north America at the mining and processing plants, and at the end product in China and Asia. TransCanada is already looking at another pipeline to Albert, if the US government doe approve the expansion of the XL line to Oklahoma for southern refinery access.

You are 100% correct Dacofa. Could not agree with you more.
The Gap, Timberland, Levi Strauss & Walgreens are off my shopping list for the foreseeable future.

If tar-sands fuel is NOT as bad as is being reported, then that Industry had better start spending a LOT of time, energy and money to educate people. Not Marketing. Education.

It is a good time to boycott the Gap, Timberland, Levi Strauss and Walgreens. I will not knowingly spend any money on products from any of those companies.

You arrogant Americans (well not all of you, but some) can do what you want. The thing is, China, India, etc will all be very happy to take our oil. You can go and invade another country to get their oil, because that is sooo much cleaner. What's even funnier is that these stores will most likely call the gulf oil "clean oil" after it just killed everything and destroyed peoples livelihoods.
If any of these CEO's actually went to the oil sands, they would see hundreds of acres of soil that hasn't been touched with oil oozing out of it. Really, the oil sands is just a giant cleanup.
As for most Albertans now, we are boycotting these retailers because almost all of us have jobs because of what the oil sands have done to our economy. I know I am for sure along with many many many people I know.

The boycott may not last long. Our Canadian oil imports are growing and soon the boycotters won't have a choice unless they want to go without gasoline alltogether.
