Oil money helps ND tribe become debt-free

Dickinson Press -- NEW TOWN (AP) — Oil and gas development on the Fort Berthold Reservation in northwestern North Dakota is boosting the coffers of the Three Affiliated Tribes. The Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation was $110 million in the red just two years ago, but will become debt-free this year. Tribal Chairman Tex Hall says in his annual report that a fund that will pay dividends to enrolled tribal members has grown to $100 million. He says another $18 million has been invested in a tribal mortgage company that will help tribal members buy homes. Hall says the tribe will work during this year's state Legislature to get a bigger share of oil and gas taxes.

The good news?

They will be debt free.

The bad news?

They will eventually spend more than they take in and be in worse shape.

This is not a racist thing. It is just a simple truth of any governing body anywhere on this planet at any time in history.

It could also work for the federal government, if they'd institute export tariffs on petroleum products leaving North America.

Too bad our politicians aren't allowing drilling on public lands to pay down Obama's $5trillion in debt in the past four years.

And may our tribe join theirs in becoming debt free.

They must somehow not be spending more than they take in.

Naw, our tribe can never do that! Look at the chief! Look at the squaws! Look at the horse's rear ends, all!

Our tribe is being decimated and will soon pass.

Hope they all put the money to good use and good homes. But they need to learn how to spend the money wisely and still make an income as do we all.
