It wold be wise for the EPA to suspend the ethanol mandate at least for a year; but ideally forever. Switch to non food based biofuel.

Good and maybe the next step is to actually shut down the plant.

The RFS has a fixed target for ethanol which likely is not achievable with the current drought situation. So, to give ethanol production demand for corn as a percentage of the corn produced doesn't make sense. To actually meet the target, ethanol producers could bid the price of corn so high that it would be cheaper to buy and import the corn from a foreign source like Brazil. This defeats the intent of the RFS which was to make the US less dependent on foreign sources of energy.

The problem with American ethanol plants is that their customer base is insulated from prices. It doesn't matter what they charge oil companies because of the federal mandated use, so the ethanol plants here will continue to operate and make money - providing dividends and equity gains to all the legislators and Congressmen who invested in them way back when.

American ethanol plants need to follow suit. This whole program has been fraught with dubious economic benefits, grossly subsidized costs, and rampant damage to older auto engines, small engines, and marine engines, while the feds do nothing but advance their "green energy" agenda at our expense.

This drought could be God's way of telling the EPA that they are overstepping their boundaries. It's obvious the EPA doesn't listen to anyone else

Serves them right. Not only has the demand made food prices too high but the Ethanol demand for the corn priced themselves out of the market. Ethanol is bad & worse. The public needs to demand gov. stop the Ethanol mandates before it kills all of us. Even the major environmentalist now agree Ethanol has worsened pollution. It saves zero gasoline & starves people as well due to land use for ethanol crops instead of food crops.
