bloomberg.com -- Australia needs to invest at least A$100 billion ($92 billion) in electricity infrastructure in the next decade to meet growing demand by consumers, the Minister for Resources and Energy, Martin Ferguson, said.

“We need more investment in electricity supply infrastructure,” Ferguson told business leaders in Brisbane, according to a statement released today. “For too many years, uncertainty about carbon pricing, state government privatization plans, retail price regulation, network regulation, and more recently, the global financial crisis, have hampered investment.”

The nation, the world’s largest shipper of iron ore, alumina, lead, zinc and coal, needs increased power generation to encourage new resource projects and avoid household blackouts during periods of high demand. Short

We are living in a world economy.

How's that working for us?

You do mean the world economy that is broke, right?

The dominoes have already fallen. They just haven't told us yet.

Finger pointing and name calling does little to contribute to this discussion.
BTW, there is a Buy one Get one FREE sale over in the POLITICAL FORUM.
Plenty of seats still available.

We are living in a world economy.
The resources to make our favorite toys come from all over the planet.
Where do you think all of that iron ore, alumina, lead, zinc and coal gets sent to? And what is it used for?
Apply thinking cap NOW.

The actions of a few greedy individuals has changed how the world does business.

No man is an island.
A simple phrase that is particularly pertinent to todays economic problems.
We are living in an era of a world economy that is intricately interwoven and interdependent.
If one goes down, the ripple effects are far reaching. Think of dominoes falling.

We have all witnessed small local businesses going out of business since this mess started.
Think of that .... only on a MUCH larger scale.
World leaders are working together in an effort to avoid a total economic collapse.

Alcoa Aluminum is just one company.
Or is it?
Can you think of anything you use that is made from aluminum?
Think beyond your favorite brew.
Maybe to something you drive? or cook with? Sit on? Live in & look through?
Fly in? Maybe even "google" upon?

Are you part of the problem or part of the solution?

Ask Obama, he's giving money away like its going out of style, and maybe it will at this rate of spending.

Well, then Australians know where money should be placed or invested to take care of things, just as we the people know what needs to be done here. Only thing is that those at the top won't do what we the people need to be done; not here in the U.S., not in Australia, not in China, not anywhere for the most part. Yeah, there's some good people in office and politics, but I can't think of many; and Obama nor Bush nor Clinton would be among them, nor Pelosi, Frank or others.

Australia is broke, the United States is broke. The entire planet followed

our lead in using fiat money or the free money concept. In the history of

the world, fiat money has never worked. Nations use this policy and then

suffer economic collapse. Why? People who do not know world history or buy

into rewritten history that started with the end of the 19th century make

history repeat itself. Most of the nations of the world are broke and now,

the time is ripe for the despots to take over beginning with the biggest

dog on the porch, the United States of America.

Is the USA going down a simular road? Does the USA have to significantly improve its electric infrastructure? We haven't had any problems the last few years, but if electric cars start selling that may cause a problem with the increased demand.

Pres. Obama just gave his Brazilian friends at Petrobras over $2 billion to aid their offshore oil drilling. Petrobras is the world's 8th largest oil, company, owned almost solely by George Soros, major contributor to Pres Obama and the Dem. Party.
But our wonderful Pres. will kick anyone else to the curb because they don't suit is fancy, including Australia, Israel or even the wishes of the American people. How's that "hope and change" looking now?

Well Obama, and company have already spent over 450 million on wind farms, the only problem it created jobs in Europe, not here. Now China wants around the same amount for their wind turbines for a wind farm that they are going to build in Texas. So they want to collect more taxes from us to send it to other countries, while our people our unemployed.

Looks like Australia forgot to do some advanced planning and was more interested in gross income to the country. I see they export COAL, why not use it to make electricity right at home?

Australia's rich cultural heritage is that of a "can do" attitude in spite of what opinion other nations may hold. I have no doubt that the nation will continue to thrive. If, indeed, assistance is required from a foreign source, let's hope that the Obama administration does not miss an opportunity to help a proven friend.

92 Billion over the next decade, means only 9.2 billion per year. It doesn't sound quite as expensive that way.

Which states are experiencing rolling blackouts?

Google News doesn't seem to know of any rolling blackouts.

California had some a while back, but that was the result of dysfunctional state regulation. (Good old Enron at it again... but when they tried the same stunt in their home state of Texas they got fined.) They had one day in Texas where it happened, but the regulators told the power generators it was going to be a good day for maintenance and they had an unexpected temperature spike.
