A monster truck cleans up its act

My San Antonio -- I was expecting a truck, not a monster truck. The bifuel Ford F-250 Super Duty, capable of running on either gasoline or compressed natural gas, known as CNG, took up more than one side of my two-car driveway, dwarfing and menacing the compact car on the other side. In doing so, it eloquently addressed one of the prime advantages of natural gas over electricity as a way to move vehicles forward: It is scalable and can be practically adapted to 18-wheelers and commuter cars.

Drivers accustomed to these big load haulers won't notice much of a performance difference when running on natural gas. It takes some experience to learn how to back the vehicle up or to maneuver in tight parking lots, but I could relax once the behemoth was pointed straight ahead. Around town and on the highway

The price will have to fall considerably more to have any impact on the cost of goods.

For that to happen, all trucks will have to convert to natural gas. That's just not going to happen given the cost involved. If it does, the cost of natural gas will go up considerably.

Maybe when they stop using them to dash in front of me on the freeway, pass from the right instead of the left, quit acting as though they were motorcycles and generally behave in a mannerly manner I will continue to hate the sight of them regardless of the fuel consumed. My last accident (I was stopped at a red light and a Ford F-250 bright red plowed into the rear of my vehicle driving it into the car in front of me and sending that lady to the hospital and crumpling my rear end and my back so I am in constant pain from it for several years now might somehow be mitigated by use of better fuel. Who needs those in the city anyway?

Bringing down shipping costs would hopefully reduce prices of all types of retail goods!

Must have filling stations for CNG to be practical.

Where are they?

No fuel available makes this go nowhere.

Get with it.

blazerbob91, it's not just the big rigs for guys around the town. This kind of technology and fuel is needed for the fleets of 18-wheelers that keep our countries moving. And it's for all the heavy duty working trucks needed on farms, etc., etc.

Keep your gas tanks full AND gas cans! Price may go up another dollar and there may be spot shortages in the next 4 or 5 weeks! I hope I'm wrong but I'm following my own advice.

Yes and it takes more than a fair share of the road. Those monsters overlap into a second lane so are not too good for city driving.

How many miles per dollar worth of CNG? How many miles per dollar worth of gas? How many miles per dollar worth of diesel?

Biofuel takes energy to produce and is VERY expensive. "Clean" biofuel is science fiction.

Natural gas could serve us for quite some time as a transition fuel, but it should not be used to justify excess.

Lks like natural gas will be the spike in the heart of the electric car from what I am reading daily. The infrastructure is already in place to deliver gas and it is called the gasoline station. They could easily had a pump for delivering natural gas to NGV's.
