Virginia DOT launches investment plan for highway funding

GasBuddy Blog -- At his annual transportation conference last week, Governor Bob McDonnell discussed the bipartisan progress being made in addressing Virginia's transportation issues; and, he announced he was working on a significant transportation funding package for the upcoming General Assembly session that will eliminate the need to transfer road construction funds to maintenance by 2019, and put at least $500 million a year in new transportation funding into roads, bridges, transit and passenger rail.

"Driving around the state, you can now see hundreds of projects underway to get people and freight in Virginia moving again," McDonnell said. "Many of these projects are being funded by our 2011 Transportation Funding Package, which set the framework...

Building a road means a continuing investment in maintenance.

Construction or maintenance money comes from the gas tax. Assuming there is no diversion to other purposes...

Governments should be using tax dollars for infrastructure and maintenance not for grants to appease eco terrorists that result in $Billions in default from failed companies. Solyndra was half a $Billion alone. Think of all the roads and bridges that could have been repaired.

"Investment" plan? The only indication of this is in the headline. The rest is a spending plan, with no indication of the source of these funds.

As Virginians, we will pay for all of this with tolls on some roads and new road taxes added at the pumps. Never trust politicians with your money.

we all know where the money really came from don't we? all they did was put another name on it. sort of like telling U.S. we saved 500 billion by having troops come home from a war that our troops were never going to be in.that's like saying your gonna save money by buying the next new thing.

Hope it all works out for them. When that happens here, there's no broadcasting the plan. It is on the sly.taking $ earmarked for one program and repurpose the $ for another program, or someones pocket, it seems to never work out.

Virginia DOT launches investment plan for highway funding and EV's and Inbreds are Not paying their fair share using the nations and states roads and highways. Federal and State fuel taxes are for the repair or replacement of roads and bridges, Not for anything else.
As more and more roads are built, people move farther away from the city or the place of work, eventually there is heavy traffic and congestion on the major streets and highways. The more roads, improved freeways or toll roads – it will be just as slow and congested as before. No matter how much you improve the traffic flow, it always ends up the same as before. More people movers, mass transit or light rail are needed to move the population back and forth from work or other travel.
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, vehicle manufactures Produce and the population ‘Drives’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Some places use road money for other than the intended purpose & then cry the blues when the roads need to be repaired.
