Shell pushes Arctic oil drilling back to 2013

GasBuddy Blog -- Earlier this week Shell Oil announced that it was forced to put off completing wells in the Alaskan Arctic for another year after a spill containment dome was damaged during testing.

Shell says it will continue to perform preliminary work on wells in the region but it will not be able to drill for oil there until the summer of 2013.

Analysts say it's a significant setback for Shell's six-year, $4.5 billion effort to access Arctic oil. According to the New York Times, Shell's inability to control containment equipment in calm water under predictable test conditions suggest that the company may not be able to stop a sudden leak if less favorable conditions arose; i.e., powerful ice floes, gusty winds that complicate a...

Their move is actually part of a well thought out plan.

Better safe than sorry! Summer of 2013 is better than doing something in haste and something really bad goes wrong (Don't Do a BP!). Make sure ALL of your equipment is operating correctly and safely. NO oil spills or black ice wanted or needed! All SOP's are adhered to, there is an emergency 'Plan of Action' in force for workers and their safety And an oil spill team, equipment and containment ready to be used if needed. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, has a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!
