NHTSA taps social media for intel on auto defects

GasBuddy Blog -- You might post photos or updates on family gatherings on Facebook. You might tweet about the newest restaurant you just 'discovered'... but if you say something's going wrong with the car you just bought, it might be YOU who triggers the next vehicle recall.

Automotive News reports that in addition to direct consumer complaints and information sent directly from auto and equipment makers, NHTSA investigators routinely search auto Web sites, fan sites, bulletin boards, trade publications and popular magazines for information that might lead to an investigation.

They also search social media sites for specific issues if they believe available data are inadequate for assessing a problem.

NHTSA taps social media for intel on auto defects? It's not just the car companies but many other companies, agencies, organizations and governments. Some companies want your Facebook password to see what your are talking about and what you are posting on it.
If you do not want other people to know, Do Not put it out there and Do Not post it!
Almost anything on the web can be accessed - including this site and comments.
Vehicle manufactures Produce and the population ‘Drives’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Fine, Hey Toyota if you are reading this can you tell me where i can find an OEM floor pan for my 1995 Tercel? She might be a weeeee bit rusting through and no one makes one....

I made one out of an old "yield" road sign rat rod style. :)
