BP fuel sellers object to settlement exclusion

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Owners of service stations that sell BP-brand fuel argue they have been unfairly excluded from the proposed class-action settlement of economic damage claims spawned by the 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

In a court filing Friday, lawyers for two Georgia-based companies that sell fuel under the BP name and logo ask U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier to inquire why the settlement agreement between BP and a team of plaintiffs' attorneys excludes them when other service stations are eligible.

Barbier said Wednesday that he is leaning toward giving his preliminary approval to the proposed deal and planned to rule within a week. The judge also said he will have months to

The dealers have absolutely no say in BP's policies and business practices that brought about the spill but they were on the front line of public displeasure which negatively effected their businesses.
