$49,000 is still to expensive. That competes with luxury cars.

Kato51: There are plenty of "greenies" who will gladly pay $109,000 for a "green" sports car like the Roadster.

$109,000 is rediculous. No way I would pay a fraction of that.

Tesla is one outfit that I would run away from rather than invest. Way too much over-hyped. I look to Nissan to pull of the best electric vehicles: they have the technology and batteries to do it.

"The carmaker is developing a second, lower-cost model, an electric sedan known as the Model S, which will have a base price of $49,900."
At that base price of $49,900 they won't be competitive with the established car companies developing hybrid electric cars.
If they want to be competitive they will have to lower their base price from around $25,000 to $30,000.

Tesla has NOT received any monies from the government. They have been offered a LOAN. Which they have not taken.
All these posters posting made up lies with no backup info remind me of Faux news.

Dipstick1 wrote Where I live, electricity costs more than gasoline. I'll have to pass.
You post the same response to each and every article about electric. How about giving us some data to work from. Like how many MPG are you currently getting tranlated to cost per mile. What are you using to compare for cost per mile of an electric?
Here's a cut and paste from the Tesla Motors website FAQ How much does it cost to re-charge a Roadster? It costs most customers roughly 2 cents per mile or $5 to fully recharge their Roadster, although the exact price varies depending on your utility rates and the time of day you charge. By contrast, other premium sports cars cost about $2 per mile.

Thorstein Veblen said it almost a century ago and some people just don't seem to get it. It's called 'conspicuous consumption.' The plutocrats in the U.S. Britain, Europe and Asia just LOVE to drive around (or wear or eat or otherwise show off) in STUFF the rest of us peons can only stand around and gawk at. And don't kid yourself. The rich maysay they don't give a fiddler's fart what the rest of the world thinks about them but that's a lie. They just love to see the hoi poloi gawking at their 'toys' and eating our hearts out because we can't have one.

The Emporer has no clothes. This company scares me. They only have two cars in their product line. One cost over a hundred grand and seats two. The other is still in the dream stage. Too much of a gamble for me.

Electric sports car maker Tesla best known product is a $109K all-electric roadster. This small company isn't up to mass producing small elect plug in cars. Did you get a hint about how far out this project when its based in SF. Check the min wage, taxes, and mandated company benefits to personnel for the Bay area. It almost impossible to run a company in this ultra taxed area. This venture is sure to fail.
