Well.
There was a big nerf (game rebalance) recently. Almost everyone (including me) was using a bear animal form, aka Ursan. The rebalance has reduced the effectiveness of the form.
Have gone back to being a fire mage. My current build as a E/Me is: Savannah Heat, Tehai's Heat, Lightbringer Gaze or You Move Like a Dwarf, Pain Inverter, Glyph of Lesser Energy, Technobable, Aura of Restoration and Arcane Echo.
Vanquishing is more challenging again. Used almost 20 clovers and loads of sweets to vanquish my last area. But it could be that my heroes just could not cut the mustard. Gonna try to vanquish with three amigos (Necromancers set for Minion Bomber, Restoration and Curses) next time.
Got to Rank 10 Sunspear, bringing total max titles to 7. Still Rank 9 ursan and Rank 8 Asuran. Have vanquished over half of Elona, and am working on Masters for all missions in Cantha.

Well. I got my Ursan to Rank 9 Norn by turning in a Hard Mode book. Beyond that I have been spending time farming stuff for festivals, or future festivals.
Sitting at Rank 8 Asuran. Pain Inverter can be a blessing. Arcane Echo it and cast Pain Inverter for a deadly damage impact.
Was pleased to see that time for UW and FoW was down to less than 1,000 minutes briefly. But it was over 23,000 last I saw. Was hoping that my passage scrolls would be worth something again.

Way to Go on Norn track. You trying to get to a point where you can join Underworld Ursan clearing groups? I have not put much work into my Norn title since I got to rank 8. I tend to use my HB (Healers Boon) monk in UW.
The world is down to less than 9,000 minutes of favour for Underworld and Fissure of Woe. Maybe those scrolls I have been saving will finally be worth something again.
I have been chipping away at doing Hero's Handbook and Master Dungeon Guides to increase my other titles. (Asuran, Dwarf and Vanguard)

Yeah, still playing BossaRin. Have barely played over last two weekends though. Family stuff was going on.
In a guild with 50 some members, and 8 officers. Kurzick alliance with 1.5 million faction. Little higher now after AB bonus weekend, but we have been able to maintain 1.5 million faction.
Still trying to gather gold following that festival last month. Spent 200 K in the Nine Rings, but got to Prosperous (4) in Lucky track.
Other guy asking about WoW. I have not played it, but one of my friends have. He liked it, but mainly because the time of day changes. This friend has not played a lot of on-line games recently, so I doubt that he plays WoW anymore.
I do not want to pay a monthly fee for a game, but I am willing to buy expansion packs. Guild Wars is a better game for me. Plus if I idle for a few weeks, I know how to get back into the game.

Yeah. Was using this like my half-blog. But decided to move my comments to myspace. It gives me a reason to update that thing every now and then.
Still pressing on. Went back to Kurzick, but my guild is not active for AB. Think it will be just me if I start to AB.

This weekend and until Wednesday is a special Halloween event. I have been saving all kinds of collector items in the hopes they will be needed for this event. Good news for me is that the items are needed. Been farming for more collector items and the Trick-or-Treat bags. So I got loads of collector Halloween items.
I like these special events. They break up the gameplay.
Remember my spiel on HOPE? Well things have come to pass sooner than expected. Since my last post, HOPE has disbanded the alliance and moved on to a larger guild. After they sniped officers from guilds in their alliance. Can I tell a tomato it is red or what?
ROCK is still a high faction guild. We are currently looking for other high faction guilds to join our alliance.
How have I been building my faction to donate? Been Hard Mode farming with my 55 Monk / Dervish build. Easier to use than the Monk / Warrior build I first started with. I noticed that protective spirit seems to take longer to recharge. Gonna see if they nerfed that skill.
Later all.

Well, Well.
The more things change, the more they remain the same. Something funny happened this weekend. Was wandering around KC (Kaineng Centre) when I saw someone recruiting for ROCK. Sent a whisper (private message) to see what guild ROCK was. It was my old guild "Ring of Canthan Knights II". And they were part of an alliance that owned a town again.
So I got an invite to return to the Ring of Canthan Knights II [ROCK], a Luxon guild. So, as much as I was enjoying my time in the Kurzick Dont Leave Party, I returned to Luxon. Had to leave a good friend in AzZ to return to ROCK.
I was with the original Ring of Canthan Knights [ROCK]. We worked hard and joined the HOPE alliance. Then HOPE recruited our best officers and kicked us from their alliance since we could not maintain faction after being crippled by the loss of our officers. The HOPE alliance fell apart, and the original ROCK dwindled as our leader went AWOL.
The remaining dedicated members reformed as the Ring of Canthan Knights II, and proceeded to develop all over again. We gained a lot of faction and joined a new alliance. This alliance had the alliance leader rotate, since we were able to own a town. ROCK knows how to faction farm.
Then a 5K daily donation was implemented, and as a weekender I could not maintain that pace. So I went on to find a PvE guild. Now I find myself back in ROCK, and the donation requirement is a more reasonable 10 K per week for members.
It was nice to come home to ROCK. There is a new guild leader in place; a guild leader very enthusiastic about the guild. Changes have been made to the cape. Our old symbol was a two-headed bird and pink. The new symbol is some sort of beansprout and lime green. Nostalgia leads me to prefer the old pink cape, but I gotta get with the revitalization program.
I recognize a few playas from my last stint there. Funny that ROCK is in the HOPE alliance again. And HOPE has just recruited a bunch of officers from ROCK. Will this event lead us down the same path as before?
Time will tell my friends.

Well.
My chronic friend bailed on the guild and went back to his hard-core PvP and high faction guild. With his and other departures, there was only three (3) active players left in the guild. After chatting with an officer about the lack of activity, the last three active playas have moved on to a new guild.
Our new Guild is "Dont Leave Party", and our tag is [AzZ]. Primarily a PvE guild, as I see others grouping to vanquish. I see this guild as way more active, now to see how it hangs in for the long-haul.
Spent most of the weekend working on my elementalist Squay Pee in the Eye of the North Expansion. Still have to complete this expansion, but I am making progress.
Otherwise spent some time on low-level characters, advancing them on my survivor track. Had one warrior die at level 9, so I deleted the character and made a new warrior.
Back at work, so will probably play Civilization III until I get back to my high-speed at home. Unless I play over my lunch break this week.

Well, Well.
Have been forced to take a break from Guild Wars. Working too hard. Just not enough hours in the day for gaming.
Been trying to get ecto and shards for obsidian armor. Way behind the curve, but I never liked the elementalist obby armor. But I want the Dervish obby armor, so that is what I am chipping away at.
How is my guild doing? Our Guild Leader went back to school and refuses to pass on the Guild Leader title. So we have lost 66% of our guild. My best friend is die-hard there, so I will hang on until he says to bail.
I am not too obsessed about the guild status as I have been off-line a lot. What do I do when I am offline? I have been playing Civilization III, a game I got in the bargain bin for $9.99 CDN.

The build I am using on Eggnostic Divinity is: Monk / Warrior Smiting 15, Heal 10, Divine Favor 10, Prot 11 Superior Runes on my non-elite Kurzick Armor with Radiant Insignia. Have the Smite Dragon Tattoo helm Weapons are Totem Axe, Grim Cesta (-50 health)
The skills I am using are: Protective Spirit Shield of Judgement (Elite Skill) Zealots Fire Healing Breeze Whirlwind Attack (Sunspear Skill) Essence Bond Balthazar's Spirit Mending
I cast the three maintained skills first. Sit to regenerate some energy and move to find foes. Prior to getting aggro I cast Protective Spirit and Healing Breeze. Once foes start attacking, energy is easier to gain back. First spell I cast once I have aggro is Shield of Judgement, then Zealot's Fire.
Once set up with this combo, I use HB and PS to damage foes. Then I use the Whirlwind Attack to keep aggro. If you use the HB and PS too much, the foes will break aggro from the Area of Effect holy damage.
Eggnostic is a prophecies character, but I do not have all the 15 attribute quests. The build might get better if I get around to completing the attribute quests. Think I need all the crystal desert quests first, and those are a pain to do.

Preordered GW:EN at EB Games and got the bonus weekend included.
Traded all my tokens for sweets (got the first level title) and alcohol.
Need just 2 more elites for factions, that should give me my forth max title.

What weapon are you using with your 55 monk? Are you using a specific build off, or are you going to test out 1 of your own? Have you finished any of the campaigns yet? If you ever want to try some 2 man hard mode farming let me know.

I bought enough character slots at the NCStore to be eligible to receive the bonus mission packs. Will have to wait until November to see if that was a worthwhile expenditure.
This weekend was the Dragon Festival redux. This is a free special event offered by Arena Net for players. It was specific to the Factions campaign though.
I spent most of Friday evening and Saturday idling in the Nine Rings. This activity costs a lot of gold, but there is some in-game benefit. Got enough points (251,000) to get third rank in Lucky track.
Spent all day Sunday farming for Victory Tokens. Plus participated in six end of festival events. After the end of festival event about ten (10) presents drop in proximity to your character.
The presents were assigned to characters, whereas previously whoever could click on them the fastest got them. Advantage went to people on high speed with good systems.
Got all the Superior Runes and skills to make Eggnostic Divinity a 55 monk. The 55 monk is a specific set of gear, skills and armor to play the game as a solo and get more treasure. Gonna farm some level 13 monsters before I move up to some higher level challenges. Will update after next weekend.

I think that I logged into the game, and then there was a visit NCSoft store icon in the upper right of the screen. Using this method you do not have to worry about typing your name wrong at the store.
The contact name used is the email address that identifies your account.

Well to start off my other pc died about 2 weeks ago, power supply went and I guess took the motherboard with it. It was a 5 year old machine, so the used motherboards I did find, didn't all work properly, so I decided to go new.
New machine was a 1.86 Intel Duo Core 800, 2 Gig Ram, 256 mb Video, 320Gig Hard Drive, 500W Antec Sonatna 3 case, I thought it was all good, until I tried to use my old windows OS and it didn't recongize the large harddrive. All for $1K. So after a copy of days of tweeking got it all to work and then it just dies all of a sudden, powers on but no display. Take it back and guy at tech desk says you didn't put the pins in under motherboard. I said yes we did b/c new case comes with some already installed and we added more. I guess we just used different screws to install motherboard. He tells me 3-5 business days to hear something about it. He says since they did a POST before i took it home that it must have been something I did. If they try and blame me, I just taking it and going someplace else to get it fixed. That and I will not tell anyone else to go back to them...
I'm back to my old P3 - 600, revisiting some old games, it doesn't have internet access either.

Sorry to hear about your computer. What kind was it?
My original laptop, a Toshiba P30-RV2, died. This computer had a 17" screen, 3.02 GHz proc, 2 GB RAM, and 128 MB dedicated video. It was also my Battlefield 2 computer. What went wrong? Motherboard. Cost to replace? $545 CDN from a repair vendor. Cost to replace with a similar laptop? $2,500 CDN. So I am watching auction sites to see if I can get the motherboard for cheap.
Enough with the sob story. I got a replacement laptop. My new laptop is a HP 9310. This computer has dual-core processors, shared video and vista. Not as cutting edge, but it runs Guild Wars easily. Portability is important as I travel a lot.
I am waiting for the bonus pack for Eye of the North. I will buy the expansion, as I have every campaign out so far. Looking forward to the preview weekend, I am.
Will I buy Guild Wars 2? Depends. I hope that they put out a beta or 14 day trial so I can evaluate whether or not I like the game.

Congratulations on the legendary Survivor. My Monk was killed this weekend at 488,000 xps. So I was almost to the second rank on the track. I still have my Paragon working on the survivor track.
What killed me? Late night gaming, and thinking it was a good time to cap Avatar of Balthazar. Not a good mix. The Acolyte of Balthazar killed me five times. ARGH. And I never did cap Balthazar.
How is my guild doing? We lost a lot of Members, and most of those remaining had not played in over a month. Officers were bailing from the guild. So I left the H A R D C O R E guild. Who wants to be the last rat on a sinking ship?
Was a capeless guy for a day until I accepted an invite to a new guild. How new? I was the second member. Turned down officer position, as I am a weekend player. In one day the Guild Leader recruited fourteen players. All active peeps, and they chat on guild channel.
We are in a small Kurzick alliance. 100,000 faction. When I quit playing Sunday, our guild had around 3,600 faction. So a developing guild, one that seems more interested in questing right now.
Our name? Looking the Other Way [AwaY]

We are eagerly anticipating the release of the "Eye of the North" expansion. This is expected in August. Talk is about the ability to advance characters beyond level 20.
How is my guild doing? We have had other guilds steal our more active players. I myself am a weekend warrior, so am not very active. Our faction fell and we have been removed from our old alliance. Some current members are working to rejoin our old alliance. Time will Tell.
I have been in several new guilds, large alliances, and in rebuilding guilds. As a long-time player I have seen that guild activity fluxes and wanes. It is one of the biggest challenges to maintain player activity. Even in a large active guild, officers will change from week to week.
One of my former guild-mates, and good personal friend, claims to donate 50,000 faction a day to his Kurzick guild. My contribution is 5,000 faction per week. So his contribution is phenominal.
How fun is the game?
The best part is to join an active guild, one that supports Player vs Environment. Basically questing. Some guilds use ventrilio or teamspeak to communicate. Others just text during quests. So find one that permits you to participate as part of a team and guild or alliance community.
For me I spend hours on the weekend playing.

My ingame name is: Squay Pee. This character is a level 20 elementalist, primarily using fire skills. Most nights I play I am a Searing Flames elementalist in Fissure of Woe. What does my name mean? It is an english spelling of a saulteaux (similar to ojibway) word meaning Drunk.
I have other characters: Scarlett Slayer (Level 20 Warrior) Swords Blud Fo Da Blud God (Level 20 Dervish) Faith is a Healer (Level 20 Monk) Survivor, so I rarely use her Eggnostic Divinity (Level 20 Monk) Protection. I need the elite skill to be a bonder.
I am trying to get a Ranger to level 20 without getting a secondary class. I am at level 19 and no secondary. I expect to be able to complete factions as a Ranger only with the character.
My primary account has 11 character slots. The other characters are still developing. But I have one of every class and two monks.

Well, I have finally completed Guild Wars Nightfall. With this success I have been doing hard mode vanquishing mode in Elona. This gives me better gold and items from defeating enemies.
Now looking forward to the upcoming expansion Eye of the North. I still have to evaluate if I am gonna get Guild Wars 2. I am hoping to see a pre-release bonus pack and collector's edition for the EOTN expansion.
Tried to do some Alliance Battles over the weekend. I do not see this as a worthwhile part of the game anymore. I was able to get more Luxon faction by farming with blessing in Luxon territories.
How is the guild doing? We are starting to see a shift to hard-core faction farming. I guess it was only a matter of time, considering that our guild is H A R D C O R E. Only time will tell if this translates into a requirement to donate faction. I play primarily on weekends, so a donation requirement is tough for me. Good news is the officers are talking about paying peeps for donating faction.
Downside to a bigger guild is we are starting to see a restriction on the type of messages we can send in Chat. It is to allow children to join our guilds and participate. They do not want offensive topics in chat. Censorship essentially. If children do not want to see profanity, they can adjust their own chat filters.
All weekend we held Eredon Terrace. So that is how our alliance is doing.

Well last weekend was crazy faction bonus weekend. Worked on faction for our alliance over the weekend. Same alliance, but we are rotating the lead guild through so all guilds have a chance to see their name in control of a town.
Anyway. Our guild went to over 1 million faction, and our alliance went to 10 million faction. We still have room for another active guild in our alliance.
In the Realm of Torment in Nightfall. Don't know how much further I have to go before completing the game. Still have to defeat the Lich and Shiro, so I think I still have a ways to go.

Since leaving my old guild, I have found a new guild in a strong alliance. I orginally started as a Kurzick, but have been Luxon since. The new guild is a Luxon guild as well.
I have joined the H A R D C O R E [xXX] guild in the D O M I N I O N [Wars] alliance. The alliance had over 4 million faction on Sunday night. With the map dominated by Kurzicks, our alliance was able to control a Luxon town.
Just figured out that the buried treasures were reset in Elona. Spent all weekend gathering my free gold and items. Gotta remember to check these treasure spots out more often. Free swag and I was ignoring it !!
Anyway. My new guild is large, but not obsessed about PvP yet. They still encourage PvE and many alliance members are present for advice or support with difficult missions and quests.
My main character has over 3 million xps in 13 months of play. The last month I have played very little due to my computer dying, and restricting my play to weekends on the new system.
Still have not completed Nightfall, but I have progressed further than last time I spoke on it.
Why have I not completed Nightfall? Because I have been spending time working on Vanquisher title in Hard Mode, a new option for the game. More challenge and better rewards.

Time marches on with the Ring of Canthan Knights II (ROCK). The guild-led allinace has progressed to a hard-core PvP (Player vs Player) allinace. Guild Members are now required to contribute 5,000 Faction daily. This style of play, and requirement, is necessary to maintain faction points and retain control of a major town.
For those not aware, the game causes all guilds to lose 10% of faction on a regular basis. Strong guilds must continually strive to maintain and develop additional faction. Not only is PvP a requirement, but the alliance promotes GvG (Guild vs Guild) on a regular schedule.
My computer died on me, so I was not able to participate effectively. The guild did wait for me to get my computer back. When I rejoined, I did not feel I was going to be able to contribute effectively. So I have stepped away from my guild and am shopping around for a new guild.
Luxon or Kurzick doesn't matter.

Well. The Ring of Canthan Knights II (ROCK) has continued to grow.
Our guild leads an alliance with over 8,000,000 faction. Over the weekend we were in control of Zos Shivros. So a great accomplishment for our alliance. We need over 32,000,000 faction to get the next town.
Our membership has grown to almost 100 players.

The Ring of Canthan Knights II (ROCK) that I am in owns a town. We have recruited some strong guilds for our alliance, and are consistently owning a town. We are getting better.

I hear what you are saying JustBill.
I passed on a chance to get a limited edition Guild Wars z-board (that is probably the keyboard) and am now regretting my decision. Die-Hard gamers use a z-board. I myself snapped my "W" key off my keyboard. If you don't know, that is the button pressed to go forward in games.
I feel that a z-board, and its gamer oriented keys, could have saved the damage to my keyboard. But I do use a serious gaming mouse, since I bought one for use in Battlefield 2. If you play BF2, you know that sniping and tank driving need more precise control of cursor movements.
Don't get me started on the serious flight control joystick that is gathering dust on my floor either.
I no longer play any First Person Shooter (FPS) since switching to Guild Wars. I have 500 hours on Battlefield 2, and over 1,300 in Guild Wars. Yes I do waste time on games. But it is "Time Well Wasted".
Anyway. I usually play Guild Wars on weekends only, and normally with some of my gaming friends. Not being hard-core, just out wasting time on the game.
Your friend just wants more of his friends to be active in the game. Guild Wars has a maximum level that is relatively easy to attain, which creates a balance in the game. An additional balance is created by limiting characters to 8 active skills. There are "elite" skills, but you can only have one active.
The balances in place make Guild Wars a game that the casual player can play and enjoy.
Since there is no subscription fee, Guild Wars is a game where you can afford to be a casual gamer.

My neighbor across the street is very much into Guild Wars. He even has this special keyboard and mouse for playing. He keeps trying to recruit me, but I can't devote the time to develop a character. If I play a game, it's usually for hours at a time but only once or twice a week at best. I would make a poor team member since I can't promise to be there when I'm needed, after all, it's still just a game...

I have switched from Kurzick to Luxon. Actually been Luxon for about 3 or 4 months now.
For those not familiar with the game, it is like going from Mordor to Gondor. Kurzicks wear darker colours and have a stark realism. Luxons wear bright colours and have a sense of optimism.
The change was strictly because that is where my friends went. We were in a dead Kurzick guild that was only kept alive because of the faction contributions from us. We were the only ones ever playing, so like lemmings we ran to another guild as a group.
The first Luxon guild we were in was Ring of Canthan Knights (ROCK). We faction farmed hard for a month before we were invited to join the HOPE alliance. The HOPE alliance was able to own a town consistently. Then our guild leader's computer died. HOPE kicked us from the alliance, as our guild leader was unavailable.
Anyway. Life goes on, and we continue to play the game.
The active players in ROCK formed a new guild. Our new Guild Name is Ring of Canthan Knights II (ROCK). In just over a month we have accumulated over 300,000 faction points. Plus we have pulled together some other guilds also kicked from the HOPE alliance. So we are very active and are looking for solid Luxon guilds to ally with.
We have a solid core of players. Ventrilio, full hall and very helpful people in Player vs. Environment (PvE). For those unfamiliar with PvE, it means Quests and such. Many people to help with Running, Skill Caps, Missions and just company.

Guild Wars is strictly online. You must have an internet access to play the game. There is no way to play the game without an internet connection.
If you are interested, there is a 14-day trial available. This is a great way to see if you will enjoy the game.
I liked the original Bard's Tale as well. Since I enjoy Guild Wars so much it is doubtful that I will get another RPG anytime soon.

Thanx Bill. I am currently playing Diablo II and have a 21st level sorceress. I was wondering specifically about Guild Wars. Is this a game that can be played on ones home computer, or is it strictly on-line? By the way if you haven't tried Bards' Tale, give it a try. If you get the right packaging, you will find the original Bards' Tale Trilogy packaged with the new Bards' Tale. I played the trilogy on a Commodore 64, back in the late 70's. It still is my favorite.

Answer to Cheesehead2k:
RPG games are my favorite genre. There are two basic types, Eastern and Western. Eastern style RPG's are usually designed by Asian companies (hence the name). They usually involve a teen character as the protagonist and the game usually follows a linear story line, and usually involves a grand quest of some sort with lots of little quests in between. They usually have rigidly structured gameplay, meaning that you can't wander the country side looking for trouble. If you want to advance to the next chapter of the story, you have to successfully complete the current chapter. To finish the game, you must complete all chapters. You can spot these easily by the big, bright, cartoony graphics. These types of games are usually played solo.
By contrast, the Western style RPG's are usually designed by American and European companies and have little or no story to follow, but more of a general goal. They just have a basic premise, something's happened and you are needed to help. You basically get to wander the country side looking for trouble. Quests are usually optional, though recommended. The game ends when the overall goal is achieved. If you never achieve the goal, and the game is designed to re-spawn enemies, you can literally make the game last forever. You can spot these types by the darker, more detailed graphics. When these games are played online, there is no goal, just battles (and lots of chat).
Now, that being said, I shold point out that are no real clear lines of distinction here. There are many variations of both and most games you find will have elements of both. I like and have played both types. If you are looking to try out RPG's for the first time and you don't want to play on-line, my favorite from these types is the Final Fantasy series. They usually have all the basic elements and have a nice, easy to learn interface. If you want to try the other type, Diablo has always been a good entry point into this type of RPG. It's has an even easier interface, mostly mouse. Diablo will play solo or online.
Be warned though, RPG's are VERY addicting and can lead to many sleepless nights, as many here can attest to. Even the bad ones can suck you in, so be careful...

Guild Wars is an online-only Fantasy game.
The first release is Prophecies (Get Guild Wars Game of the Year version) set in Ascalon. It has a tutorial style stage, followed by the actual game. The game is a doomsday scenario, where evil has triumphed and you are leading people to safety in another realm. Moves from Blasted Wastelands to Verant Forest to Desert to Snowy Mountains. It continues to get more challenging, but I have not went further.
Second release is Factions which is set in Cantha. Cantha has been beset by fall-out from a cataclysmic event. The sea has been turned to jade and the forst to stone. The environment is asian style that moves from rural to urban environments. Near the end you are in the environment affected by the cataclysm.
Most recent release is Nightfall, set in Elona. Elona is facing the coming of a darkness in the realm. The environment is African Savannah and Egyptian themed. I have not reached the ending stages of this release yet.
Review: Prophecies - Tutorial stage can not be avoided. Tutorial can be played for an extensive period, but also be skipped fairly quickly. Most expansive environment of all games.
Factions - Collector's Edition unlocks special features on emotes (in game actions) for enhanced play. Quick to level up. Introduces new characters and gameplay. Option to participate in different Guild activities.
Nightfall - Additional characters. Adds ability to develop Heroes, and provides for better customization of equipment.

Theses are on-line games. I guess you could call them D & D style.

Enlighten me please. Are these games to be played on line, or can you play them as individuals, off line? Are they a d&d style game?
