I think it was pretty funny when he said it looked like it came from under the car as if he ran it over, but congrats to him either way for getting a top ten...

It's been said before. Think back to baby Earnhart with his fake yellow.

The thing that bothers me is that this kind of crap has been going on for ages, only to have NASCAR turn a blind eye. Hell, NASCAR themselves have often thrown a yellow flag for mysterious, non-existant "debris on the backstretch" away from any spectators.

Correct me if NASCAR had already issued a warning that the punishment would be this severe for the infraction, but if not, I think he should've been black-flagged, and then NASCAR should have announced afterward that anyone else that pulled that crap in the future would be nailed with fines/points that they instituted on Gordon. I just wonder if NASCAR would've dealt as severely if the perp would have been JEFF Gordon or Dale rather than Robbie? I severely doubt it.

This "write the rulebook as we go" attitude of NASCAR drives me NUTS!

I think he threw it out of the window. From the tapes I've seen, the debris wasn't on the track before he got there & it appears to come from his car. If it was a roll bar pad & it came out from under his car, then why was it there?

I think NASCAR should have penalize him one lap in standing & reissued the points based upon the new finishing positions.

The NA$CAR fines must've lit a fire under his a$$, a top ten starting spot at Texas, might be his 1st all year?

Yes, I think it came from his car and the punishment fit just fine.

Should have been fined a whole lot more and moved to last in the NASCAR points standings. Make him have to qualify for all races next season no getting in on car owner points etc.

$15000. Not enough to make a point! 50 points. Was that enough to move him down in the season points standings? If, not, then it's not enough points. Yes, NASCAR found him guilty, but the punishment sounds more like lip service than a true punishment.

I think the old tradition of throwing something out the window to cause a caution has ended!

NASCAR seems to think he did it! 50 pts is pretty harsh!http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news;_ylt=Au1e.7RrRer5wtKRT09gPbY5nYcB?slug=ap-nascar-gordonpenalized&prov=ap&type=lgns

The only thing you're missing is whether the driver has an "extra" piece of padding to discard at the appropriate moment. Not that Robby, or any other driver, would ever consider doing that.

Why would it be hard to figure this out?
There are Officials at the pits.
If it occurs just before the end of the race (no pit), check the cars after they cross the finish & before anyone on their team gets to it.
"Hey, this one is missing some padding."

Am I really missing something?

Since they have been putting the car numbers on the back of the gloves, rollbar padding is the next best thing to throw out of the car, it is called team work to help your partner out without wrecking.

Whether it cam from in or under the car, it sure didn't like like padding. It looked more like a long metal strip.
