We know Elliott has name recognition, and we know he was a godd driver. But he needs to fade to black, and let the folks who are trying to earn a living do their jobs. Provisionals have gotten ridiculous.

The only thing that I do not like about it is that Mark will not be driving a Ford next year. I used to be a Elliott fan its tough to see him slipseating for other teams for his past champion provisional start, and to work the bugs out of a new team.

So Jack finally fired Mark. Looks like it was the only way to ever move on. Now Mark can drive part time for one of the teams that might win a race some day (if no one else shows up).

This is straight from the horses mouth. This is a copy of the weekly diary from "Mark Martin's Fan Site" at Roush Racing. I know this doesn't answer your question fully. But it sounds like he may be on the move to me. You may find more info from somewhere else, but I would say this would be where I would put my $$...

Hello everyone,
Well, I guess a lot has happened since the last time I wrote you guys, and I know that a lot of rumors are swirling around and a whole lot is being said. By now you have heard the news that I plan on staying in Cup racing next year and running the MB2 No. 01 car for 20 races. Now, we have been through a lot over the years and you guys have stuck with us through think and thin. we’ve been through a lot of good times and we’ve been through a lot of tough times. Sometimes change can be hard, but it is the one thing in life that we can be sure of.
As you may have heard me say earlier today, I was 39 years old when I started to initially make my plans for the future and even retirement. Looking back, I guess that was way too young to make those types of decisions. At that time, I thought at the age I am now, I may not be able to compete on the Cup level anymore and I never really wanted to be around if I couldn't compete. I’ve said all along that I don’t want to ride around in a circle--and that holds true today more than ever. But, when you are still able to get the job done, It’s hard to walk away from this level of competition. I got a chance to keep going on a limited basis, in the Nextel Cup Series and to keep doing that year-to-year, and It’s really a great opportunity and the opportunity that I had been looking for right now.
What I was looking to do, simply didn’t fit into what Roush has going on, especially with all of the limitations that NASCAR has put on race teams. First of all, I wouldn’t want for one second to break up the No. 6 team into a limited deal. I’ve worked really hard over years – with Jack by my side – to build that team into a championship caliber team, and that is what it deserves to be...and it will be.
The deal to come back with Roush in the No. 6 with AAA in 2006, really worked out great and it gave me one of the best years of my career. AAA has been great to work with and It’s really been awesome to work on such important issues. I’m really glad I was able to come back a year and help those guys and Jack out, and we aren’t finished yet.
You also have to understand that I can’t thank Jack Roush enough for all he has done for me on both a business and, more importantly, a personal level. Jack and Roush Racing have given me the opportunity to live out all my dreams and I’m truly thankful for that.
As for next year, there will be new challenges on hand for everyone and make no mistake, we are going to work really hard on that, but that’s all we are going to say about that for now. From this point on, our focus is winning this championship. I’ve been fighting this fight in the No. 6 car for 19 years now and we aren’t about to give up anytime soon. It’s our complete focus and we’ll fight down to the very end for it.
As always and now more than ever, I thank each and every one of you for your continued support.
~Mark

Mark who?
Didn't that guy retire a couple years ago?
Or was it just a marketing exercise?
