EUGENE, Ore. -- We're all irritated with the prices, but Oregon Congressman Peter DeFazio is using his frustration to spearhead an investigation of sorts into why prices are as high as they are.

DeFazio began looking into the spike just before Memorial Day, reaching out to the president and a task force to figure out why Americans--and West Coast residents in particular--are paying so much for fuel.

"And sorry I posted this -- seems it just brought out the crazies. Just thought that someone in Congress trying something, anything, might be interesting."

=====================================================================

One thing about being a member of Congress is you develop a "voting record" to show the folks back home if you have abused the office which was entrusted to you. I never thought that revealing DeFazio's record would classify me as being one of the "crazies" referenced above. It is HIS record and it should be something in which he is proud; unless he is attempting to hide his record from public scrutiny. The truth is that this was just a small sampling of his voting record. I could have supplied page after page of how he voted which reveals a consistent pattern of wasteful and unconstitutional spending.

The point that I was attempting to illustrate was that there is a correlation between this spending and the price of goods and services which I am certain that the Congressman already knows. But now it is time to "face the folks" which is required by every member of Congress and somehow I get the impression that DeFazio doesn't feel too secure about the way he has handled his oath of office.

So, your amazement that I could be critical of a guy in Congress who is trying to do "SOMETHING, ANYTHING" (about the high price of gas) is equally amazing to me. I find that HE is one of the culprits and KNOWS that he is guilty, and is attempting to deflect any attention by staging an investigation in order to appear to be genuinely concerned about the plight of us victims. If he can continue this charade for a long enough period of time, he can try his hand at a U.S. Senate seat to continue the thievery.

Am I being fair? Could it be that his voting record is merely coincidentally congruent with the above described villain. Perhaps he is just plain stupid and has (with no malice intended) ruined the economy of our country by taking (Read: "stealing") from those who work and are productive and giving part of the spoils to those who are lazy and unproductive. Should we, the taxpayers, feel any better because he is only "incompetent" rather than someone who is consciously abusing his influence and the power of his office to buy votes to keep him in office? That would be very charitable to only brand him a fool who doesn't know any better, but should we continue to elect such fools when the results are the same?

Consistency, however, is not a mark of stupidity. He KNOWS what he is doing and he should be held accountable.

Why now when this has been an issue for the last several years? Just wondering if this is self-serving as opposed to public serving.

West Coast gasoline is higher because idiots like DeFazio keep voting for requirements for things like higher taxes and extra additives that make the West Coast Fuels higher.

I thought vAn was still out in the ether zone? And Sammy and Salem GT -- bye, bye off to the ether zone for you. At least Sammy had some interesting and constructive things, occasionally, but the 'ignore' button please --

"Another Dumbocrat pretending that he is not the cause of the problem in the first place! Because of the Dumbocrats, the EPA, and DOE is why gas prices are so high in the west due to not a single new major refinery being built in America since 1979! That's right 1979. And the current refineries cost more to run then they are worth having due to Union Labor costs and the huge amount of maintenance required to keep 35 to 60 year old refineries running!

If the Oil Companies had been allowed to build new refineries in the 80's, 90's, and 00's, gas would not be more then $1.75 a gallon! The Dumbocrats don't want this because cheap energy causes companies to expand and make "Green Energy" look even more stupid! The biggest expense in making gasoline is no longer the price of oil, it is the cost to maintain and run the refineries. Not a single refinery has made a profit in the last 11 years! They all lose money every year because they are falling apart and Union Labor costs are to high!"

Good Post. It seems like too many of our Gas Buddies were fooled by this simpleton, who is campaigning for reelection and is using this rhetoric in order to deflect attention from his dismal and very liberal voting record. Besides ObamaCare, he has voted to increase the debt ceiling, voted for a bill that would take money out of the private sector in order to create jobs in the government sector, HR3288 $1.1 Trillion spending, etc., etc.,

His tenure as a Congressman is the REASON that our dollar loses its value and why prices escalate year after year. If anyone out there knows about a conservative running in Oregon's 4th Congressional District, please let me know so I can make a contribution to his campaign to unseat Pete DeFazio.

Having just come back to New Jersey from Washington State I must wonder why gas costs more than a dollar a gallon more there, than in New Jersey, (gas costs $3.11 - cash price - in New Jersey)

Why there is only one Representative interested in why gas prices are so high?

What exactly has he done so far?

He "reached out" to the president and a task force (whatever that means).

He talked to Exxon Mobil heads and "other think tanks".

Peter DeFazio, Congressman of ACTION!!!

Good Luck! He will run into the lame excuses and stonewalling used all the time by politicians, big oil, and speculators! In fact, he's probably just doing it to make himself look better.
